Mike Bossence

Head Coach

Hello Academy Parents and Players,

My name is Mike Bossence, and I’m a professional volleyball coach from Toronto, Canada, with over 15 years of coaching experience across club, college, professional, and international volleyball.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to coach in five different countries across three continents, working with athletes from the U11 level all the way to professional and national team environments. These experiences have shaped the way I coach today: with high standards, clear teaching, strong relationships, and a deep commitment to helping athletes grow both on and off the court.

I began coaching at just 15 years old with Durham Attack Volleyball Club, one of the top clubs in Canada, where I later became the club’s Technical Director. As a former setter and Rookie of the Year at Durham College, I continued developing my coaching perspective through experiences with Durham College and as a volunteer assistant coach with the Ohio State Buckeyes men’s volleyball program.

My professional coaching career took me overseas, beginning in Sweden as Head Coach of Vingåker Volleyball Club in the Elite Series. I then moved to Denmark to coach Middlefart Volleyball Club, where we won the Danish Cup for the first time in 41 years, and I was honored to be named Coach of the Year. From there, I coached in Japan with Hyogo Delfino, helping the team achieve its best results in over a decade.

I was later invited back to Sweden by the Swedish Volleyball Federation to work full-time at the national training center with their junior national teams, including the U17 Boys and U19 Girls. During that time, I coached the U19 Girls to their first international gold medal in over 40 years and helped the team qualify for the U20 European Championships.

At Academy Volleyball, my goal is to create an environment where athletes feel challenged, supported, and excited to improve. I want players to build strong technical foundations, understand the game at a deeper level, compete with confidence, and develop habits that help them succeed in volleyball and in life.

I’m excited to be part of the Academy Volleyball community and to help our athletes grow, compete, and represent the club with pride.
