Mike Bossence

Head Coach

Hello everyone,

I am coach Mike Bossence. I’m a professional volleyball coach from Toronto, Canada, with over 15 years of coaching experience. I’ve had the opportunity to coach in five different countries across three continents, working with both men’s and women’s teams at the elementary, high school, club, professional, and national levels. My focus is on helping athletes improve their skills on and off the court, develop a strong game strategy, and reach their full potential. With a global perspective and a passion for the game, I’m excited to bring my experience to help young athletes grow and succeed in life and volleyball.

I started coaching when I was just 15 years old with the well-known Durham Attack Volleyball Club and eventually became the club’s Technical Director. As a former setter and Rookie of the Year at Durham College, I also had the opportunity to gain valuable experience as a volunteer assistant coach with the Ohio State Buckeyes men’s volleyball program. I later returned to Durham College as an assistant coach before taking on coaching roles internationally.

My professional coaching journey began in Sweden, where I became Head Coach in the Elite Series for the men’s Vingåker Volleyball Club. After a great season there, I moved to Denmark to coach Middlefart Volleyball Club, where we won the Danish Cup for the first time in 41 years, and I was honored to be named Coach of the Year. From there, I coached in Japan with Hyogo Delfino, helping the team achieve their best results in over a decade.

I was then invited back to Sweden by the Swedish Volleyball Federation to work with their junior national teams, including the U17 Boys and U19 Girls. While working full-time at the national training center, I coached the U19 Girls’ team to their first international gold medal in over 40 years and helped them qualify for the U20 European Championships.

I’m thrilled to be returning to North America and to share all that I’ve learned from my experiences in volleyball, from U11 club teams to professional and international levels. I’m especially excited to bring my knowledge to Academy Volleyball, focusing on the setting position, and to help young athletes and teams grow, develop, and achieve their goals.
